Slovenian Theatre Institute
Slovenski gledališki inštitut
Slovenian Theatre Institute is the only national theatre museum, dedicated to preserving Slovenian theatre culture. At its premises, one can see our permanent exhibition that presents the development of Slovenian theatre from its beginnings in the 16th Century up to the beginning of the 20th Century. Apart from that, we present a number of temporary exhibitions and different events on various aspects of Slovene theatre history. A quick step into the history of the theatre for all theatre enthusiasts in the heart of the old town.
The Institute’s regular publishing activity ensures that professional works are published in the field of theatre. On SiGledal web portal of Slovene performing arts it edits the Repertoire – digital database of professional, semi-professional and non-institutional theatre production in the last 150 years of Slovenian theatre history, since 1867 and the portal Slovene Drama in Translation, which offers a number of translations of Slovene contemporary plays in English and other languages.
The Institute is also active in the field of arts and cultural education and cooperates and connects with similar institutions in Slovenia and abroad.
