Muzej Republike Srpske
Museum of Republic of Srpska was established on 26 September 1930 as the Museum of Vrbas Banovina (Banovina - a regional unit in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia).
By the order of King Aleksandar Karadjordjević, the founder of the museum was the first Ban (governor) of Vrbas Banovina, Svetislav Tisa Milosavljević. The first manager of the Museum of Vrbas Banovina was Spiridon Spiro Bocarić, an academic painter from Budva. During the first ten years of his work (until 1941) Mr. Bocarić had gathered a great amount of priceless ethnographic objects of a very high historic, national and cultural value.
The name and location of the museum had been changed several times, until 1982, when it was finally moved in to the Workers Solidarity House, where the National Library of Republic of Srpska and the Children’s Theatre of Republic of Srpska were also situated. According to the decision made by the Government of Republic of Srpska, on 14 November 1992, the Bosanska Kraina Museum changed its name to the Museum of Republic of Srpska and became a central institution in charge of issues related to the protection of movable cultural goods.
Today, the museum is situated in the building of the Workers Solidarity House and occupies 3700 square meters. The permanent exhibition area occupies 1500 square meters, while the rest of the space is occupied by depots and offices.
