Centre of Visual Arts & Research

The Centre of Visual Arts & Research (CVAR), located on Ermou Street in the heart of the walled city of Nicosia, opened in 2014. CVAR is home to the Costas & Rita Severis collections, which comprise more than 1500 works of art by artists travelling to Cyprus during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, hundreds of Cypriot memorabilia (including from Government House) and dozens of Cypriot costumes from the 18th to 20th centuries.

CVAR also houses a library and research centre with over 5000 volumes of books, journals and periodicals on the history, art and culture of Cyprus and its neighbours, as well as a large collection of photographs, all available to scholars and casual readers alike.

In its café, restaurant and roof terrace, CVAR screens films and slide shows. CVAR hosts a wide range of activities supported by the Severis Foundation and its partners to promote understanding and peaceful coexistence amongst Cyprus' diverse communities.

Come to CVAR for a walk through history and experience the magnificent views described by travelers and visitors centuries ago! From CVAR's unique and historic location, visitors can admire the tiled roofs, the historic palm trees, the countless churches, mosques and monuments of old Nicosia—all with the Pentadaktylos as a breathtaking backdrop.
