Opened 5th May 1915 in Palazzo Bianco, housed since 1934 in the Istituto Mazziniano. Placed in the birthplace of Giuseppe Mazzini in Via Lomellini, comprehending Museum, Archives and Library, the Istituto Mazziniano holds a rich and considerable heritage that in part goes beyond the wrapped chronology of the Italian Risorgimento and covers a wider period of time, from the insurrection of Genoa against the Austrian in the ancient regime (1764) to the Second Word War.
The museum exhibits a rich and varied historical and artistic heritage testifying the history of the Risorgimento, Giuseppe Mazzini,and the Workers Confederation, Garibaldi and the expedition of the Thousand. In addition to paintings, uniforms, weapons and documents is by the way kept the original manuscript of the anthem “Fratelli d’Italia”, written by Goffredo Mameli, as well as paintings, pictures, documents especially concerning Giuseppe Mazzini, including the guitar. For the Word War I centenary memorial, the exhibitions of the Istituto Mazziniano – Risorgimento Museum have been enriched, encompassing a selection of World War I exhibits and memorabilia, taken from the exhaustive iconographical and documentary heritage preserved in the Institutions’ collections.
