OZEANEUM Stralsund

OZEANEUM Stralsund is a declaration of love to the oceans. It is located in Northern Germany and invites visitors to an underwater journey through the northern seas and presents exhibition about the Baltic Sea, the Giants of the Seas and much more.

Aquaria
The way through the aquaria invites to a journey from the quay wall of Stralsund Harbour, crossing the North Sea on the way up to the North Polar Sea. The visitor gains an impression of different marine habitats from the "Bodden" (shallow bay) as well as the open Atlantic. Behind the scenes of the aquaria a complex technology cares for species-appropriate animal housing: mechanical and biological water treatment, protein skimmers, gigantic filter systems and nearly PVC-free tube material. All together guarantees a constant high water quality.

The biggest basin with a holding capacity of 2.6 million liter of water is the Open Atlantic Ocean tank in the North Sea round tour. In this basin the water is more than nine meters deep. The bended panoramic panel has a weight of 22 tons and has a thickness of 30 centimeters!

Other giant basins of the round tours have a capacity up to 200.000 liter and are between two and four meters deep. Additionally, there exist smaller tanks with hundreds of liters in capacity.

Exhibitions
Float through the broad glas foyer on Europes' longest self-supporting escalator into the fascinating world of the seas. On the exhibitions in the OZEANEUM you will discover the water planet earth.

The OZEANEUM presents five permanent exhibitions. The towards the sea orientated structure presents the first three exhibitions of the museum.

The escalator takes you up to a lucid gallery. Before you start your discovery of the world oceans you may enjoy the splendid view from the gallery through the glass facade. Germanys´largest island - Rügen - is only 3 km away. The panorama view starts with the harbour of Stralsund and the new Rügen-Bridge all the way to Stralsunds´ship yard.
