Fernbank Science Center

The exhibit hall at Fernbank Science Center spans some 9000 square feet and circles the planetarium theater. Split over two levels the exhibit hall has an upper area with 10-foot ceilings and a lower level with 15-foot ceilings. Within these areas are presented numerous displays which deal with a whole array of scientific concepts. The theme for the entire exhibit area reflects the slogan of the Science Center: "Where Science Becomes an Adventure."

On the upper level, the exhibits are of a permanent nature and are presented in an open-air diorama format that involves the visitor in this exciting "adventure." The lower exhibit hall functions as our temporary display area with changing exhibits, traveling exhibits, etc.

The exhibit hall at Fernbank Science Center is utilized as an integral part of our instructional offerings. Objects and concepts presented in the displays are requested by the instructinal staff to assist in the explanation of scientific phenomena in their classes and programs. The exhibit hall therefore functions as a three-dimensional teaching classroom. This is one of the unique features that makes Fernbank Sceince Center such an extraordinary facility for DeKalb County Schools.

In addition to the instructional utilization of the exhibits, the universal message presented here is an invaluable community resource. The exhibit hall is open daily to public and is free of charge. This includes the exhibit hall and associated grounds, the library and the observatory. Public planetarium shows are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Click here for more information.
