Fragment of a throwstick with a cartouche of Akhetaten c 1360 BC. From Amarna.
Fragment of faience throwstick. On the left is the cartouche of Akhenaten and on the left a wedjet eye. 4.5 x 4 x 1.8cm. This must be a ritual item as faience throwsticks could not have survived throwing. This particular item appears to be described in Pendulbury, J.D.S. 1951 'The City Of Akenaten Part III' Text, p91. This piece is from the Royal Estate. See Dunn Friedman (1988 p187) for more information on such items and Anna Steven 2006 'Private Religion at Amarna. The Material Evidence' p118-120.
