A set of cards for the game Lexicon, contained in their original box. Each card is marked with black letters and red numbers. The original cardboard box is marked "war time pack" and the set is smaller than the conventional pack used for this game.
The aim of the game is to use the cards to make words. The first player to use all his cards wins the round. The other players add up the value of the cards left in their hand and this is their score. The first player to reach 100 leaves the game and so on until the winner is left.
These cards were made by John Waddington Ltd. between 1939-1944. Despite paper shortages during WWII, certain luxury items like cards, books and magazines continued in production as the government believed they boosted morale at home and at the front.
