The Municipal Museum of Belluno was founded in 1872, when the important collection of paintings on wood and canvas owned by the Bellunese physician Antonio Giampiccoli was donated to the city. This was joined shortly afterwards by the collections of bronzes, medals, plaquettes, coins, seals, manuscripts and books of Count Florio Miari.
Currently the masterpieces of the art collection, ranging from medieval times to the contemporary era, include works by Matteo Cesa, Bartolomeo Montagna, Andrea Brustolon, Marco and Sebastiano Ricci and Ippolito Caffi.
