The renaming of the Muslim Corps and its renaming as the Separate Azerbaijani Corps was an important step towards the establishment of a national armed forces.

After the collapse of the Democratic Republic, the process of building an army in our country stopped. After the coming to power of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in 1969, the process of training military personnel began in our country thanks to his exceptional services. In 1971, at the cost of great efforts, Heydar Aliyev succeeded in establishing a school for training military personnel in Azerbaijan - a military lyceum named after the prominent commander Jamshid Nakhchivanski. The activity of this school led to the strengthening of interest in martial arts in Azerbaijan and the training of Azerbaijani officers. After the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence, the military school named after J. Nakhchivanski became one of the main bases for army building. Since the mid-1990s, Azerbaijan's close and effective cooperation with NATO has led to the improvement of the army-building process, the modernization of our Armed Forces, and their adaptation to modern standards.
