Basic preventive care for Caribbean Heritage Collections

Training Course

The Barbados National Committee of ICOM and the Blue Road Consultancy are inviting members and interested persons to a one-day training session in basic preventive care for heritage collections. This workshop will be held at the Israel Nidhe Museum, Synagogue Lane, Bridgetown on Wednesday June 1st 2016 from 9am.

A lecture will be followed by interactive exercises to introduce participants to systematic methods of preservation for artistic, archival and museum collections. The workshop will be relevant to museum, historic house, gallery, library and archive staff including curators, managers, support staff, guides, cleaners and the general public.

The nominal cost of $125 for ICOM members and $150 for non-members includes break, lunch and teaching materials.

At the end of the training day participants will be able to:

  • Identify the causes of deterioration to collections in the Caribbean context
  • Have a basic understanding of how to manage the risks
  • Respond to specific threats from real life scenarios
