Gallery of Modern Art "Empedocle Restivo"

Galleria d'Arte Moderna "Empedocle Restivo"

The Museum’s permanent collection boasts more than two hundreds paintings and sculptures, spanning from the early 1800s to the mid-1900s.

From a scientific viewpoint, the Museum is divided into 14 thematic sections that allow visitors to easily comprehend the distinctive features and history of the collections. The 214 works on display - 176 paintings and 38 sculptures – reflect the trends in fashion and taste that, since its foundation, have guided the acquisition of pieces that best represented modern art in Italy at the most famous national and international events (such as the Venice Biennale) of the early 20th century or at prestigious private art galleries, or through gifts and donations.

Yet, the exhibition itinerary is only the tip of the iceberg of the GAM’s collections, their finest and most visible expression.

The storage rooms are an equally interesting part of the museum, and they're open for visits every month in the second Sunday.

The Museum is open for visitors daily, except Mondays, and public holidays, from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm (last admission at 5:30). The ticket can be purchased at the ticket counter, online (LINK) or via call centre.

To experience your visit to the fullest, you can take advantage of various services provided for single visitors or groups. A wide range of educational activities have been specially designed for families and schools.

The architectural complex of Sant’Anna that hosts the Museum is fully accessible for physically impaired people. It is an extremely charming venue thanks to its stunning cloister and small internal courtyards, the restaurant and cafeteria, with top-quality cuisine, where you can also purchase typical Sicilian delicacies, as well as to the bookshop selling original items and publications on modern art, Sicilian art heritage and third-sector essays.
