On Gun Smoke and Battle Idyll. White Gold from the Frankenthal Manufactory

A coffee and tea service with 43 pieces has rarely been so completely preserved. Christian Heinrich Winterstein, one of the best Frankenthal porcelain artists, painted it around 1766. Fighting on horseback against a historical backdrop, soldiers resting in naturalistic landscapes, camp scenes and dramatic battles convey an idealised image of actual warfare in the 18th century. This artistic porcelain service is one of the most splendid works of the Porcelain Manufactory of the Elector Carl Theodor in Frankenthal. Visitors will be taken on a fascinating time journey into the cultural history of the 18th century. Paintings, graphics and weapons from the rem's collections place the service in its historical context and cast light on the motifs portrayed.
