We bring an exhibition under the title 'The effect of the inundation on German warfare' With this temporary exhibition we take a look at the many consequences of the inundation of the IJzer valley. As in the permanent exhibition, we do this from a German point of view.
The purpose of this exhibiton is not to deal with the details of 'the inundation' as such. We mainly try to see the different consequences in a global framework.
Very unique is the overview panel that shows all German divisions were present between Dixmude and the coast during the full four years of the First World War. Frequently the question was asked what German forces were active in our region. The answer could never be given completely. We had never seen such a list. The information is indeed very scattered and difficult to trace.
The study lasted more than a year to come to the overview. The survey also resulted in new findings. From now on, local researchers and interested people rely on this work in the Lange Max Museum.
To establish the whole more clearly an animation was also created in which troop movements are visualized and the main events of each month come into the picture.
The organization of the temporary exhibition is held by Spaenhiers vzw, the archaeological historical association of Koekelare and near area with logistical support and accomodation of Lange Max vzw.
The exhibition was especially made possible by the close cooperation with Alain Van Geeteruyen with his historical knowledge, research and comprehensive collection of information.
