A TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO SERVED

Beginning in 1939 -' How the War Began' with photos, artifacts, maps and uniforms to show how Camp Bowie Training Base was supported by the citizens of Brown County and beyond.

Ending in 1946 with the 36th Infantry Division serving 400 days in combat and capturing over 175,000.

Col. Jack Bradley, USAF, was born in Brownwood, TX on June 6,1918. Bradley, as squadron and group commander, was credited with 15 enemy aircraft destroyed, 7 probably destroyed and 10 damaged--all in air combat. On one occasion he shot down two ME-109s in ten seconds.

He was awarded the British Distinguished Flying Cross. On another escort mission he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for shooting down 3 FW-190s while leading his squadron on a Berlin bombing raid.

Col Bradley had a distinguished career after the war and retired from U S Air Force in 1962. Several of his medals are proudly displayed in our exhibit
