International Museum Day 2018
ICOM's suggested theme for International Museum Day 2018, 'Hyper connected museums: New approaches, new publics’, was applied by The City Palace Museum, Udaipur to engaging with school children. All schools of the city were invited and student entry was free. To make this day memorable, The City Palace Museum under the aegis of Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur planned different activities at various historical locations in the Palace with the help of Children Art Society. A child-friendly map, which was developed especially for this day, was distributed to all students for easy understanding of the different spaces. The museum staff also interacted with children and asked them what they thought about the museum, what they liked about the museum and so on; these interactions were uploaded as videos clips on social media.
Storytelling, additional information panels, drawing and painting activities were both fun and educational. A large number of students participated and enjoyed the day. It drew appreciation not just from local visitors but also national and international tourists.
An augmented reality app 'AR - The City Palace, Udaipur' was also launched on this day, to help visitors experience the Living Heritage of Mewar. The application is currently available on Google Play Store and will shortly be arriving on Apple Store. The trackers for this application are available at Rai Angan and Mor Chowk, Mardana Mahal, two historically significant places in the Palace.
