Musical instruments collection, Ptuj Castle

The Regional museum Ptuj - Ormož keeps the most comprehensive collection of historical musical instruments in Slovenia. Written music and tools and devices used for instrument making are also included in the collection. A rarity of international fame is the Roman tibia from the 2nd or 3rd century.

Permanent set-up consists of the exhibits of Ptuj archaeological heritage, instruments of former military band and town brass band, typical instruments played in the bourgeois, aristocratic and ecclesiastic environments, and the heritage of the violin maker Maksimilijan Skalar.
