Koper Regional Museum

Pokrajinski muzej Koper

In 1911 the Art and History Museum was established, and in 1967 it was renamed the Regional Museum of Koper. With the help of collections put on display at the Belgramoni Tacco Palace and at three dislocated units, it presents the heritage of the Southern Primorska region. The Archaeological Collection presents the material culture from the Palaeolithic era to the settlement of the Slavs, and is exhibited on the ground-floor of the Palace; the Art and Cultural-Historical Collection is organized both chronologically and thematically, and covers several floors.

The New History Collection is situated in the pavilion near the Museum lapidary and presents national and political struggles of the Slovenian inhabitants in Istra and Primorje at the break from the 19th to the 20th century. The Ethnological Collection is located in the Venetian Gothic building from the 14th century; and the Tartini Memorial Room is situated in the Tartini House in Piran. Temporary exhibitions are held in the Museum Gallery.
