The Villa Regina Margherita museum and cultural hub in Bordighera houses a substantial part of renowned Terruzzi collection: more than 1200 pieces exhibited, including gilded panels from the 14th and 15th centuries, Italian and foreign still lifes from the period between 1500 and 1800, important nucleous of paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries representing various Italian schools, prestigious furnishings, decorative arts and a fine and unique collection of fine porcelains.
The permanent exhibition unwinds through the rooms of the historical Villa to evoke the seductive atmosphere of a vintage abode.
Beside the absolute masterpieces of 17th century Ligurian art, the nucleus of works by Alessandro Magnasco is truly exceptional and an actual monographic exhibition dedicated to this renowned artist.
In addition to the three works by Luca Giordano which decorate the walls with all the powerful force of this artist, the works from the Neapolitan school also include paintings by Paolo De Matteis, Francesco De Mura and Giuseppe Recco.
If, on one hand, two splendid works by Giuseppe Maria Crepi stand out as examples of the Emilian school, on the other hand, some of the most suggestive pieces are found on the first floor, such as the Christ at the Column of the Caravaggio school - once even attributed to the Maestro himself - which dialogues with several paintings by young Jusepe de Ribera, also known as the Spagnoletto.
The numerous and varied still lifes situated along the rooms are impressive, whereas the six large canvases by Bartolomeo Bimbi displayed beside the striking grand staircase of the villa are a series unique of their kind, with a suggestive ornithological vocabulary.
The many French artist include Jean-Baptiste Lallemand, Joseph Sauvage and Jean-François de Troy.
Furniture items of exceptional value are presented in all the rooms, with the famous Minghetti porcelain set deserving special mention for its imposing and spectacular 381 pieces of sublime quality.
The Villa also has a multifunctional space for temporary exhibitions and conferences and is surrounded by a park of particular interest, home to a large number of botanical species and to the splendid "Roseto della Regina" rosegarden.
