St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery

St Barbe is both a dynamic museum and highly regarded art gallery, located in the heart of Lymington in a converted school building

It re-opened at the end of July 2017 after a massive refurbishment, funded partly by the Heritage Lottery Fund, that increased the size of the galleries, created interactive museum displays, introduced The Old School Cafe, and much-improved shop.

St Barbe also offers a useful Tourist Information point, which includes transport timetables, what's on leaflets, and area guides.

The museum explores the fascinating history of Lymington and the New Forest coast, and proudly displays The Boldre Hoard - a stash of 3rd Century Roman coins discovered by metal detectorists in a field on the outskirts of Lymington in 2014. After a successful fundraising campaign, the coins were brought back to Lymington to be displayed and interpreted for the enjoyment of local people and visitors alike.

There is also a programme of unique exhibitions of national standard, with art loaned from national collections from galleries such as The British Museum and The V&A, and private collections.

St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery is an independent organisation governed by the Lymington Museum Trust.
