Dolenjski muzej Novo mesto

The Dolenjska Museum in Novo Mesto is a general regional museum with three permanent exhibitions (archaeological, ethnological, recent history) and two dislocated units: the Jakac House and the Kočevski rog – Base 20.

The Archeological Exhibition is important for its rich and unique excavations from the Late Iron Age or Hallstatt Period (800 B.C. to 400 B.C.) The Ethnological Exhibition presents the peasant way of life in the Dolenjska region in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, and the following crafts: milling industry, pottery, honey-bread bakery and candle making.

The Recent History Exhibition presents the period from the end of the 19th century to 1945. The Jakac House is a gallery with three permanent exhibitions: Collection of Božidar Jakac’s Works, Permanent Visual Art Exhibition and Visual Art Education Collection. The Kočevski rog – Base 20 displays all the barracks that served as the living quarters of the Slovenian Resistance Movement during the World War 2; two exhibitions; a video film on the history of Kočevski rog and two hospitals – Jelendol and Zgornji Hrastnik.
