William Scarbrough House; Ships of the Sea Museum

A museum celebrating the maritime history of Savannah, Georgia; and keeper of the largest garden in the historic district, which is available for weddings and events. The museum was founded in 1965, and was originally located on River Street. Since 1996, it has been located in the historic William Scarbrough House (built 1819). Scarbrough was a principal owner of the steamship "Savannah," which was the first steam-powered vessel to cross the ocean. The museum's collection includes model ships and maritime artifacts from the 1700s & 1800s. The new garden covers more than an acre and includes a maple tree grove.
