Museum Het Schip

You will find Museum Het Schip in the enchanting social housing complex designed by architect Michel de Klerk. The world-renowned expressionist building is popularly known as The Ship because of the particular shape in which it has been constructed. It has since become an icon of the Amsterdam School architecture movement.

The apartments in Het Schip are still used for social housing. Museum Het Schip is located in a former school building that housed primary school The Catamaran until 2015. We have a permanent exhibition on the first floor and temporary exhibitions on the second floor. Besides the exhibitions, you can admire the beautiful designs of ‘Gesamtkunst’ (total art) produced by the Amsterdam School both on the inside and outside by joining one of the daily guided tours around the building.
