(H)mong: New Years Celebrations

(H)mong: New Years Celebrations offers an insight into the colourful courtship traditions of Hmong New Year.

The (H)mong New Year takes place between December and January, depending on the lunar calendar, and lasts up to 10 days. This important time is an opportunity to honour ancestors and spirits through offerings and rituals and to partake in games, feasts, shows, music, and courtship.

On display are intricate costumes worn by (H)mong women during New Year celebrations.

Exhibit’s listening station: New Year Soundscape and (H)mong Love Song
