A Long Look Homeward

The Tibet Museum features permanent exhibition - A Long Look Homeward. The exhibition is divided into two sections: the first section on the first floor displays the Chinese occupation of Tibet and its results, and the second section on the second floor observes Tibet’s past, present and hopes for its future.

In addition, the museum hosts a memorial for the 1.2 million Tibetans who have died as a result of the China’s invasion and occupation of Tibet. A butter-lamp is displayed in their memory. 

Catering to the diverse visitors to Dharamshala, all the textual presentations in the museum are in three languages: Tibetan, English and Hindi.

The Tibet Museum is more than a space for exhibition. The museum also provides a platform for educational activities relating to Tibetan history - through in-house lecture series, documentary movie screenings, temporary exhibitions, digital exhibitions, traveling exhibitions, publications and other activities.

We believe that knowing the past gives strength and provides guidance for the future. We hope our museum will be instrumental in both these aspects.
