Christmas at the Castle

Take a trip to Christmases past at York Castle Museum this winter and have a nostalgic look at festive traditions from yesteryear. Take a stroll down our decorated Victorian street Kirkgate to the sound of carols and look at the gifts and cards they would have sent. On select days meet Father Christmas, Scrooge and Mr Tackleton the Toy Merchant, the Dickens character who hates children almost as much as he hates making toys- until his heart is melted by festive cheer! Special festive events and activities include fondant chocolate making with Sophie Jewett from York Cocoa House and willow and cane weaving. Meanwhile children can make baubles and bunting or festive gingerbread animals. For the first time this year the museum will also open on certain evenings for a magical and unique Victorian Christmas Experience for all the family. Meet the people of Kirkgate as they prepare for Christmas and seek out all of the presents on the list - if you find them all there is a very special festive person waiting to greet you.
