Exploring Lord Fairfax's Cellar

Properly fortifying a townhouse was not merely a matter of making it secure against intruders. Its cellar too needed the fortification of copious quantities of fortified wines such as Port, Sherry and Madeira to withstand the rigours of Georgian entertaining. In this tutored tasting and talk, Richard Goodacre (Wine Expert and International Wine Judge) will explore six different styles of fortified wine and how they have developed since the eighteenth century. He will also look at fortified wines’ close association with England and, especially, York – which lays claim to founding the oldest Port house still in operation!
