Find out about the history of early computers in our Computing gallery. See the world's first complete Difference Engine No. 2, built by the Science Museum in 1991 from plans drawn up by Charles Babbage in the 19th century. Other displays about Babbage include part of the unfinished Analytical Mill and half of the great man's brain, preserved after his death. Also in the gallery is the 1956 Ferranti Pegasus. It's the oldest working computer in the world, but we still turn it on (to the delight of our visitors). There’s also a timeline about computer development and a selection of calculators and adding machines. Visit this gallery for a unique insight into the history of computers.
