A brass Davy lamp with 3 steel pillars and inverted screw lock, a Laidler lamp of tin can pattern, however unusually this lamp does not have a maker's stamp. Within an open top steel can with central glass (cracked), 3 soldered bars and supplier's plate., , , , The internal Davy lamp was compared with Spec., 1988-340, a stamped Laidler lamp of the same pattern. The two are almost identical, confirming that 2007-143 is a Laidler lamp, although not stamped as such. , , , , The external screw lock on the tin can also appears to be a Laidler component, probably confirming that the tin can was made by Laidler's and subsequently supplied by H. Foster & Sons, Bishop Auckland. Unusually, the lamp and tin can show no signs of use. , , , , Made from tin, brass and steel. Inscription H. Foster & Sons, Colliery Stores, Bishop Auckland. Made in Durham City c. 1860 - 1870. Supplied by H. Foster & Sons, Bishop Auckland. Date used 1860 - 1880. Locally made, excellent example of rare lamp. It is in good condition, although it has a cracked glass in the tin can.
