Risk board game comprising a board, coloured counters, cards, dice and a set of rules. The design illustrated on the board is that of a world map with a selection of countries highlighted with bold colours. The aim of the game is to conquer the world through battle using military strategy and defence tactics. The game is played by two to six players with a recommended age of ten years to adult. Playing time can last up to one to two hours.
Manufactured by Palitoy Ltd. in the 1970s. The game was first published by Parker Games in the late 1950s to early 1960s. Designed in 1957 by Albert Lamorisse, a French filmmaker, the game is believed to be one of the first mainstream war games. Over time the game has been modified, there are now many versions of the rules in play. Risk can now also be played in computer game format and via the Internet.
