A small soft toy, known as Major Clanger, made in 2001.
The Clangers was a popular animated series about a family of pink aliens and their adventures. The series initially ran for 26 episodes (and an election special) from 1969 to 1974. It was created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, the same team behind other children's television favourites, including Ivor the Engine, Noggin the Nog and Bagpuss.
Very little merchandise was produced to accompany the original series, however, following the successful repeat of the shows, starting from the early 1990s, the Clangers has become a "cult classic" and generated the production of a whole range of associated products. This new merchandising included this particular toy, produced as part of a promotion for the fast food chain, McDonalds. It would have been included as a free gift with one of their children's "Happy Meals".
