This printed chiffon dress is typical of the clothing created by Ossie Clark in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The fabric was designed by Clark's wife, Celia Birtwell and the dress was made as part of a collection for the clothing manufacturer, Radley.
Ossie Clark's dresses were hugely popular during the 1960s, his romantic use of chiffons, crepes, velvets and exotic animal skins made him one of the most famous and sought after British designers of his generation. Clark's clothing was always overtly sexual; bodices feature cut-away sections, keyhole openings or revealing chiffon panels. Skirts, even full length ones, revealed the legs by clever use of splits, or wrap-over panels.
