Oil on canvas. "Knapweed and Mallow, Beachy Head" is rare among Jeffery Camp's paintings in having no human presence. In many of his other views of Beachy Head, the famous cliffs on the south coast of England act as a backdrop to some kind of human drama. The unusual format of this painting emphasises the verticality of the scene and the height of the cliffs. Beachy Head made a strong impression on Jeffery Camp, who had previously only painted the flat landscape of East Anglia. Camp was born in Suffolk and studied in Lowestoft, Ipswich and Edinburgh.
