Description: Meiping vase. Hard-paste porcelain painted in underglaze-blue. The vase has a short, flaring neck with everted rim. It has rounded, sloping shoulders narrowing in and flaring gently out to the foot. The low, inverted foot has a flat, recessed, glazed base. The neck is decorated with plantain leaves, and the shoulders are decorated with four quatrefoil cartouches enclosing flower heads reserved on a washed blue-scale ground. The centre panel contains a horse, three soldiers delivering a message to two scholars seated at a table, a maid on a terrace, and cloud scrolls. Below is a band of horses leaping amongst waves, mountains, and three ribbon and lozenge emblems.
