This group portrait shows the Grant brothers hunting at Melton Mowbray. Francis Grant, shown to the right of the painting trained to be an artist with Ferneley and in 1838 painted a portrait of Queen Victoria hunting with the Quorn. Francis Grant lived, hunted and painted from the Lodge, Dalby Road, Melton. He became president of the Royal Academy in 1866 and was later knighted by the Queen.
To the left of the painting the town of Melton Mowbray nestles in the valley of the River Wreake, dominated by the tower of the church of St Mary.
