Ibis. This wooden model, if genuine, is Ptolemaic (332-30 BC). The ibis was sacred to the god of wisdom, Thoth. Both mummified ibises and even eggs are known to have been given as votive offerings. Until the 19th century the ibis was quite common to Egypt, but by 1850 it had almost disappeared. Donated in memory of Mr DL Gibbs.
