José María Palacios Porta, a lawyer by profession, possessed extensive knowledge of history and culture. Amelia Weymann Tejeda, an architect, shared the same artistic sensibility and keen interest in the development of art in Guatemala. Both initiated their collections at a very young age, and together they enriched them over the course of the next 50 years. So it was that this collection, composed of over 4,000 pieces, became an important part of Guatemala’s artistic heritage. ThePALACIOS-WEYMANN COLLECTION covers the following periods: Pre-Hispanic, Colonial, Hispano-Guatemalan, Modern and Contemporary.
The collection, duly listed as a cultural heritage in the Institute of Ethnology and History (IDAEH), was later donated to the Foundation for the Fine Arts and Culture (FUNBA).
