The national flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan consists of three horizontal stripes of equal width. The top band is blue, the middle band is red, and the bottom band is green. An eight-pointed star with a white crescent is depicted on both sides of the flag in the middle of the red stripe. The ratio of the width to the length of the flag is 1:2. The blue color is related to the Turkic origin of the Azerbaijani people and the idea of Turkism. Red color - glorifies modernity, freedom, development and independence. Green color - means belonging to Islamic civilization, Islamic religion. This flag was the state symbol of Azerbaijan until April 1920.
