Laser light show and new concert footage to feature in new V&A Pink Floyd exhibition

The band's members and Pink Floyd's Creative Director, Aubrey 'Po' Powell, have been involved in a major new exhibition opening at the V&A next year

Not for Pink Floyd, the mere handwritten lyrics and psychedelic prints that could make up an exhibition on their trajectory: Their Mortal Remains, the multi-sensory exhibition just announced by the V&A, will feature a custom-designed laser light show, as well as previously unseen concert footage and construction pieces from the tours for The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall and The Division Bell.

Opening next May, the show is being managed by impresario Michael Cohl and his Iconic Entertainment Studios group. Cohl has worked with Pink Floyd and the likes of Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Prince and The Rolling Stones, whose Exhibitionism whirlwind is about to close at the Saatchi Gallery.

“I have always loved being involved with Pink Floyd and the work that goes into making a visual spectacular,” says Cohl, who once recalled firing Donald Trump during a Rolling Stones tour. “This is the culmination of a long history together. I’m happy to work once again with one of the greatest bands of all time.”

The exhibition coincides with the 50th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s first single, Arnold Layne, and is as much about the tripped-out culture of the 1960s as the music technology and architectural drawings among the hundreds of objects and artefacts on display.

Michael Roth, the Director of the V&A, thinks the museum is “perfectly placed” as host. “Pink Floyd is an impressive and enduring British design story of creative success,” he says. “The exhibition will locate them within the history of performance, design and musical production by presenting and complementing the material from Pink Floyd’s own archive with the V&A’s unrivalled collections.”
