About

Art Nouveau is the general name given to a style, particulary in architecture and the decorative arts,  that was popular c1890 to World War I. It was a reaction against 'academic art' and was inspired by nature in the form of flowers and plants and the curved line line in general.

It was inspired by the earlier UK style of Arts and Crafts and by the products sold by Libertys in London. This trail looks at what can be seen of the style in the urban landscape of the capital, by using photographs taken for the EC-funded project Partage Plus.

We begin at one of London's most famous landmarks: 'Eros' in Piccadilly Circus.
