Founded in 1876, The Museum of Decorative Arts and Design was one of the first of its kind in Europe. In addition to temporary exhibitions, attractions include the permanent exhibitions “Design and Craft 1905–2005”, “STYLE 1100–1905”, The Costume Galleries and The Collections for Glass and Ceramics.

Ranging from antique Greek vases and East Asian art objects through to recent European design, the museum’s collection contains some 35,000 artefacts illustrating the history of costume, fashion design, textiles, furniture, silver, glass, ceramics and other craft forms. Highlights include the 12th century Baldishol tapestry, the royal costume collection, Nøstetangen glass and Herrebøe faience.

Sundays: Free entrance for all

The ticket gives access for one day to all our museum buildings in Oslo (the National Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum - Architecture, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design).
