Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank

Since 2018, the Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank has been using its new premises at Kaiserdamm 105, which are located directly on the quiet Lietzenseepark. Previously, from 1985 to 2016, over one hundred exhibitions had been presented at the old location in Budapester Straße in cooperation with national and international museums and art institutions.

The program of the Kunstforum Foundation of the Berliner Volksbank gGmbH aims to focus more on the people in Berlin and Brandenburg and also on tourists. The former corporate collection is therefore the focus of the exhibition activities. It comprises around 1,500 works (from the period after 1950) by 160 artists. In the early days, the collection initially concentrated on GDR art from East Berlin, but also on outstanding representatives of the Leipzig School such as Bernhard Heisig, Werner Tübke and Wolfgang Mattheuer.

Since 1990, works by Berlin and Brandenburg artists have been collected. The main focus is on figurative art under the motto „Images of People“, later extended to include „Berlin Cityscapes“. Two exhibitions are usually presented each year, supplemented by interactive guided tours, thematic events and workshops for children and young people in the workshop for creative artists. In the workshops, the techniques, themes and motifs of the artists are explained and creatively implemented. The Kunstforum also lends works, most frequently the well-known painting „Januskopf“ by Harald Metzkes, which hung in Bellevue Palace until October 2020.
