Galerija likovnih samorastnikov Trebnje
The Gallery of Naïve Artists Trebnje is the only gallery in Slovenia that systematically collects and exhibits works by naive or self-taught artists from Slovenia and abroad. It was established in 1971 and today holds around 1,500 works by more than 300 artists from all over the world, making it one of the most important European collections of naive art.
The gallery's activities are closely connected to the International Camp of Naïve Artists Trebnje, which has been held annually since 1968. This event invites selected artists each year and provides them with a space for creativity and the exchange of ideas.
Naïve art is widespread across the globe. In Slovenia, the term "samorastništvo" has become established to describe the work of self-taught artists and also encompasses other forms of art created outside academic frameworks. In the broader European context, are used terms such as Marginal Art, Art Brut, and Outsider Art. The works of self-taught artists are characterized by imagination, originality, and a free artistic expression that often breaks conventional rules.
