Naval War College Museum

The Naval War College Museum interprets the history of the Navy in Narragansett Bay. Permanent exhibits interpret naval activities in the region from the colonial period through the Civil War and also focus on the Naval Torpedo Station, the Naval Training Station, and the Naval War College. A naval art gallery and temporary exhibit space offer changing exhibits on various subjects.

The Museum is free and open to the public 10 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. It is closed on holidays. Public access to the Museum with a personal vehicle or bus is through Gate 1 of U.S. Naval Station, Newport. For reservations please call (401) 841-4052.

U.S. citizens are advised that the vetting process takes seven business days. Non-U.S. Citizens require 14 days advanced notice. If escorted by personnel with U.S. military identification, no advanced reservations are necessary. Escort or reservations and two forms of identification are necessary for all over the age of 16 for entry onto the Naval Station. Photo identification, proof of vehicle insurance and vehicle registration are required for all visitors trying to access the base.

Weekday visitors must stop at the Pass Office before proceeding to Gate 1. Please contact the NWC Museum (401-841-4052) for more information on this topic and to receive the form that must be sent to Pass and Identification Office.

Facilities for the handicapped are available, as is a gift shop operated by the Naval War College Foundation (which partially funds Museum operations).
