Museo del Parco di Portofino

Across from one of the world's most famous ports, sheer above the sea at Portofino you can find the Museo del Parco on various levels of the hillside. Located in the garden that the Baron Mumm commissioned and had created at the beginning of the nineteen hundreds, it initially belonged to the Castle located above it. The Baron brought back an important collection of ferns and rare Japanese pittosporum from his various trips around the world. Over the years, the garden was carefully taken care of and became famous due to the presence of a large number of camellias that were appreciated for their size, merit of the area's microclimate, which is among the most interesting ones on the entire peninsula from a botanical point of view. The number and the blooming of the oleanders are equally significant. For over twenty years, the Park has been the largest outdoor Italian monumental sculpture museum. The collection of works by the best international artists was created by Daniele Crippa and includes as of today one hundred and twenty sculptures of different materials and sizes. The bronze, marble, glass and steel statues were often specifically created by the artists so they would blend well and communicate with the magic of the area. The park contains, among others, works by Beuys, Rotella, Pomodoro, Fontana, Cucchi, Arman, Spagnulo, Atchugarry, Conti, Guttuso, De Camargo, Iommi, Hirsch, Poirier, Vautier, Spoerri, Thun and many others. The space that can be toured during summer also hosts cultural gatherings, meetings and events. The first reports concerning the Castle that stands above this space date back to the period between 1900 and 1910.
