Redpath Sugar Museum

Redpath Sugar Museum first opened in 1979 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Redpath Sugar Refinery - the oldest of its kind in Canada. Recently in 2004, the museum celebrated 25 years of programming.

The Museum's collection comprises of contemporary and historical photographs, books, documents, domestic and world objects and artefacts related to the sugar industry and the company's history.

Many static displays depict the history of sugar, its origins and use in the ancient world, as well as the expansion of the sugar industry around the world. You'll learn all about the company's founder, John Redpath and his family, and you can dive into the history of the Redpath Brand, the company and its operations.

Exhibits also include an overview of the modern sugar industry and the current production methods of sugar refining as they are currently practiced at the Toronto facility. Discover how the sugar industry operates worldwide, and find out about various transportation and distribution systems for sugar (including scale model road and rail vehicles). You'll even see all kinds of sugar packaging from around the world.

You can visit the museum on a self-guided tour basis following a brief introductory orientation session. Tours are approximately 25 -35 minutes. It is recommended that tours be booked for groups of 10 or more.
