The 6th Riga International Textile and Fibre Art Triennial Exhibition “Identity”

M. Žilinskas Art Gallery, Nepriklausomybės Sq. 12, Kaunas,

The 6th Riga International Textile and Fibre Art Triennial Exhibition “Identity”.

Triennial “Identity” is dedicated to the centenary of Latvia and the theme has not been chosen by accident. In the global world it has become acute within the few last years on the background of different political and social events (including issues of migration). It does not have the narrow national character anymore, it is wider and philosophically voluminous and therefore artists were asked to discuss identity from different aspects: historical, social, political and national, as well as personal, artistic and philosophical.

Baltic States: Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania were celebrating their centenary in 2018, therefore their art pieces are displayed together featuring the common identity of art of the Baltic States, based on history, traditions and mentality. You can trace there common values of the Baltic textile and fibre art school – stability of professional classical values, mastership of technical execution, searching of innovations in expressions.
