The exhibition "Multifaceted Creation. A retrospective of Adomas Galdikas (1893–1969)"

The exhibition Multifaceted Creation. A retrospective of Adomas Galdikas (1893–1969)

The M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art presents a retrospective dedicated to the 125th birth anniversary of artist Adomas Galdikas. Comprised of an early creation and the works from the period of forced emigration in Freiburg and America, the exhibition introduces a prominent Lithuanian artist whose creation had experienced a variety of influences of the 20th century fine arts, simultaneously keeping a focus on a broad stylistic spectrum and the diversity of artistic facets. At various developmental stages these have interspersed with the impact of such art movements and styles as Symbolism, Impressionism, Art Deco, Expressionism, Surrealism, Abstractionism, and the Lithuanian folk art.

Although the dominating technique in A. Galdikas’ creative legacy was tempera visitors will see his oil paintings, as well as portraits which are quite rare and abstract compositions created in the emigration.

The main attraction of the exhibition is the monumental decorative panel LITHUANIA scrupulously preserved in the museum's depository in the years of war and during the Soviet era. The triptych created for the 1937 Worldwide Exhibition in Paris Art and Technologies in Contemporary Life was awarded the Grand Prix.

The collection of Adomas Galdikas’ creation has been accumulated in the museum systematically – starting with the first exhibitions in the interwar period, proceeding in the war years and during the Soviet era. The creative legacy of Adomas Galdikas ranks one of the most abundant in the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art – over 1000 pieces of art are housed here.
