PA-DONG! The furniture of Susi and Ueli Berger

They created Swiss design icons: for over 40 years, Susi Berger-Wyss, a graphic designer and Ueli Berger, an artist, designed furniture together. In the 1960s, the couple abandoned the well-trodden paths of modernism and ventured into a world of contrasts between found objects and popular culture, rationality, and sensuality. Driven by curiosity, they cast a critical eye at the existing and play with symbols from comics or folk art, which lends their designs an exciting ambiguity. On the occasion of the publication of a comprehensive catalog of their works, the exhibition presents the original furniture, which is housed in the museum’s Design Collection. Besides Kungfu Regal, Robot Kommode, Soft-Chair, or Wolkenlampe, exhibits include original drawings, prototypes, photographs, and advertising material.
