Exhibition-installation-action "BENEFACTORS.LT. History of inter-war art, culture and sponsorship: cross-sections“

With the exhibition-installation-action "BENEFACTORS.LT. History of inter-war art, culture and sponsorship: cross-sections“ the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art starts the cycle of events dedicated to the centenary of the State

The public will get acquainted with facts stimulating to recall historical events when the Lithuanians here and overseas have consolidated for a noble purpose, not in the presence of war, enemy or threat.

The exhibition presents imposing books with mysterious inscriptions „L“, „R“, „Š“, a spatial installation comprised of more than 2000 manuscripted names, you will have an opportunity to get acquainted with deeds commemorating Vytautas the Great’s 500th death anniversary. You will check here your gene of kindness, as well.

The project "LABDARIAI.LT" is dedicated to the largest charity campaign the aim of which was to gather one million litas. The campaign lasted from 1930 till 1936 in order to collect the funds for a unique monument – the National Museum. Not for obelisk, not for a personality but an object that the future generations of Lithuania could be proud of. As a result, in the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Vytautas the Great’s death, it was decided to build the Museum of Culture in the provisional capital Kaunas.

It is a unique example of the state’s and nation’s unity. The state assigned a million litas for the construction of the museum, and more than one million litas was gathered by people in Lithuania and overseas.

The exhibition reflects a clever marketing and communication plan, showing how the original means, the most bizarre actions, were able to unite the nation in building a monument to culture.

The exhibition-installation-action "BENEFACTORS.LT. History of inter-war art, culture and sponsorship: cross-sections“ is open: 24 11 2017 – 04 11 2018
